Farewell Twinkies!

Say goodbye to America's favorite twinkie. Hostess is going out of business, unfortunatley for good. According to Fox News, the company is bankrupt and has to lay off 18,500 of it's workers. Researchers say that the popularity of the famous creame filled golden sponge cake has died down since Americans have become more health conscious and aware of the high calorie intake. All other Hostess items will be gone as well such as, bread and pastries. It's going to be hard to imagine a world without Twinkies, what's next? Oreos- God forbid!

Twitter vs. New York Times

The days of people relying on newspapers as their primary news source seems to be coming to a bitter end. It's a sad time in journalism when respected news anchors quote twitter as a source of retrieving information. No one really cares about how often Mel Gibson screams at his wife or the cocaine Paris Hilton supposedly carries around in her purse...or do we? Maybe the media is a direct reflection of the morals and values of today's society. These are very entertaining subjects and it's kind of fun to watch pampered celebrities prove that there is more to life than fame and fortune but this shouldn't be the primary focus of main stream media. Higher education sure doesn't prepare students to do this type of reporting. Maybe colleges should offer Celebrity Gossip 101.

Remembering a legend

Today marks the eve of the passing of super star Michael Jackson who passed away June 25, 2009 at the age of 50. For those of you who still don't know; he was the known as the most successful entertainer of all time by the Guinness World Records. Michael Jackson was also known as one of the most controversial people in the world because of drastic changes in his appearance, criminal allegations and a sworm of legal troubles. But setting aside his negative media image, he was known as a kind and generous humanatarian and brilliant entertainer like none before him. Although some may not agree with the way that he lived his life... I'm sure we can all agree that he made his mark in history as one of the most creative people of all time. We will continue to enjoy his music for decades to come.

No more Internet?

The beginning stages of cyber-warfare is here. A new bill is being discussed about the government gaining more control over the Internet. Senator Joe Lieberman proposes that protecting cyberspace is essential during a time of war. The bill would give the president the power to shut the Internet down in the event of an emergency. Along with granting the president complete powers over the Internet, the bill would also grant the department of homeland security more powers to monitor and police the web. Senator Lieberman said in a CNN interview, " Right now, China, the government, can disconnect parts of the Internet, in the case of war, we need to have that too". Now, I understand that the government should take precaution during emergencies and especially concerning war but this may be taking it a little too far. Bills that violate first amendment rights would probably do more harm than good. Should freedoms exercised in the United States be compared to those restricted in other countries?

WARNING: Before considering getting a tattoo

Some of the most popular tattoos are the ones we don't recognize or understand how to translate... we get them because they look cool. Tribal symbols and tattoos written in an exotic languages such as Japanese, Chinese and french are commonly chosen to represent a deep meaning or reflection of ones personality... plus some things just look better written in other languages. Well, my friend has had this Chinese tattoo for a couple years now. He thinks it means "success", but when we looked it up; it was no where to be found. Did the tattoo artist mistakenly put the wrong tattoo on him? Or maybe it's written in the wrong language since Japanese and Chinese look similar to those unfamiliar to both languages. So we are wondering, has anyone ever seen this tattoo before? The whole situation is kinda funny... just as long as the tattoo has some kind of cool meaning.

How About Them L.A Lakers!!!!

The L.A Lakers manage to accomplish the ultimate goal of the NBA winning the 2010 championship game. Making the victory even sweeter it was against long time rival Boston Celtics which fought all the way to a game seven. This last game was definitely a team victory for the Lakers with their star player Kobe Bryant struggling on offense Ron Artest really stepped his game up. Even though Kobe struggled in this last game he still has carried his team through to receive his fifth NBA Championship Ring. This is undeniably one closer step to mentioning Kobe with the best player ever to play the game Micheal Jordan. The only missing piece to the puzzle will be if coach Phil Jackson(who has eleven NBA Championships as a coach) whose contract is up this year will remain with the Lakers to go for a three-peat or move on to coach the next NBA phenom(Hint: Lebron James).
